If there's something strange in your neighbourhood, who you gonna call? Spooked Wiganers need look no further than their very own "ghostbusters" in the form of Shane Smith and his team of paranormal investigators.

The 18-year-old claims he has long been in contact with the spirit world, saying his first contact with "the other side" was when his dead grandfather used to appear to him at the age of six to read him bedtime stories.

The son of Lianne Veiga, who runs the spirtitual shop Mysticals in Frog Lane, Wigan, Shane has previously appeared on TV in a Channel 4 Cutting Edge programme entitled My Child's Psychic.
Shane, who lives in Hey Street, Ince, said: "One day when I was about six, I was going to bed and shouted down to my mum to come and read me a bedtime story. Then a voice next to me said 'I will'. I turned round and there was an old man there. From the moment I met him I knew he was my grandad."

Shane says the man continued to read him bedtime stories over the following weeks.
He said: "Three months later we moved home and I asked my mum 'is grandad coming with us?' She told me he had passed away years ago.”

Shane says he has developed his psychic abilities over the years through meeting other mediums as he grew up with his mother, who has a strong interest in the spiritual world. He says his grandad now acts as his spirit guide.

He is now using his powers as a medium to assist a six-strong team of paranormal investigators who call themselves The Entity to probe ghostly goings on in Wigan and Leigh.
The team use special ghost detecting equipment and have already uncovered spirit forces at Haigh Hall and encountered a presence at Scotmans Flash in Hawkley Hall.

They claim to have photographic and video footage evidence of paranormal activity at both sites.
Shane said: "At Scotmans Flash we captured evidence of a spirit lady who had lost her child. The child had drowned and the mother was trying to stop her baby going into the water. As a medium I act as a magnet to spirits."

Now they are keen to carry out more investigations and would like to hear from anyone who feels they have ghosts in their home or workplace.
Shane said: "Our intentions are to show the world that there is a spirit world full of loved ones and there is nothing to be scared of."
