PARANORMAL TEAM TO INVESTIGATE 2002 KANSAS MURDER MYSTERY

MARQUETTE -- The Departure Films production crew is seeking to find chilling evidence in rural Marquette regarding the murder of 29-year-old Leslie Johnson of Salina, last seen alive at a Salina construction site in 2002.

Jessika McCool, production manager, said the crew has been working on the series “Haunting Evidence” that will air on Court T.V. for about a year-and-a-half. The series focuses on cold cases, typically homicides and missing person cases, where investigators cannot find enough evidence to solve the case.

“Right now we are working on our second season of the series and the first show will be aired in June,” she said.

The Johnson case was next-to-the-last show filmed for the series. McCool said the production crew had found out about the the case in a local newspaper. The production company is based out of New York City and was hired by the Court T.V. network to film the series.

“We work closely with law enforcement and local newspapers,” she said. “We contact the families of the victims first. Then they connect us with their local police officers (before filming the television show),” she said.

She said in the filmaking industry, most crew members do freelance work. Before McCool had started working on the series, she was doing work on commercials. Greg Palmer will be producing the episode. The director is Max Weissman and the writer is Lorraine Dikienzo.

On Thursday, the crew spent the day filming from different locations where evidence was found, where the murder had possibly taken place and the site where Johnson's body was found. During the afternoon, a psychic observed the site where the body was found to help find clues to solve the the case.

The crew consisted of college students, freelancers, local electricians, light crewmen and producers. A dozen crew members worked hastily setting up equipment in an abandoned field on Rainbow Road during the evening in muddy, windy and cloudy conditions. The location is where the Johnson's body was found.

During a season, the crew completed a show each week. The first season of “Haunting Evidence” was completed in two-and-a-half months. Currently, Court T.V. has been airing reruns of the first season, which was released on May 17, 2006, on Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Viewers will expect interviews with the victim's family and friends, and McPherson County Sheriff Investigator Doug Anderson.

An investigative team that consists of Psychic Profiler Carla Baron, Medium John J. Oliver and Paranormal Investigator Patrick Burns will recapture the incident, by trying to retrace the steps of Johnson and his murderer. Scenes from Salina and parts of rural McPherson County will be featured in the television show. The new season will start at 9 p.m. on June 20 (2007), with a special one-hour episode.

Every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.
