PREACHER HAUNTS LOCAL UK PUB
A pub in Shirley served up spirits of the supernatural kind on Saturday when the Light Pen Ghost Club held an investigation into ghoulish goings-on.
The Sandrock pub in Upper Shirley Road has a long history of ghostly activity, and events at the weekend served only to add to the rumours.
Julian Dryden, honorary secretary of the club, said: "A lot of interesting stuff happened and we are quite convinced there is something supernatural going on there.
"We left a couple of chess pieces on the bar as trigger objects.
"Despite no one going near them during the night, one of them had moved a centimetre by the morning which is quite rare.
"There have also been stories for some time that the pub is haunted by a preacher.
"Steve Gilmore, the landlord, does not really believe in the ghosts but he talks to the light in the cellar as if it is the preacher because whenever he is in the room it flickers madly, but stops as soon as he leaves.
"He thinks she disapproves of him selling alcohol."
The ghost club, whose members either live or work in the Croydon area, has conducted several investigations in the past.
Evidence is collected on video, camera and audio tape.
