Like most people who have an invisible childhood friend, Carol Lowell brushed it off like a childhood fantasy. Little did she know her friend "George" would later help her develop a career in ghost-busting and energy-healing.

"I thought I made it up as a child," said Lowell, who will teach others what she's learned about ghosts and energy at two upcoming workshops.

Lowell, who works as a hands-on healer and ghost-buster in the Twin Cities, began to develop her psychic abilities in the 1980s.

Unlike the horror-movie images of evil spirits, Lowell describes ghosts as people who have died but for some reason couldn't "cross over" to their intended destination.

"Ghosts are earth-bound spirits that are stuck," she said.

Another aspect of her work is hands-on healing, a technique that uses the alignment of energy to help people heal physically, mentally and emotionally, Lowell said.

The healing technique works in conjunction with traditional medicine, she said. For example, hands-on healing can used before cancer radiation or chemotherapy treatments to help mitigate loss of energy or nausea, Lowell said.

Hospitals across the country have incorporated energy healing into their services, she said.

Often times, nurses are being certified as a Healing Touch practitioners, she said.

However hands-on healing is not limited to the medical world, she said. During her upcoming workshop, Lowell said she will teach techniques that anyone, from beginners to professionals, can use.

"Hands-on healing can help anyone, not just people who are ill," she said. "Anyone can learn to channel hands-on healing to help yourself and others."
